Riding Lessons & Pony Sessions

Sweetlands Farm is a 5★ Higher Standards licensed, ABRS+ approved and fully insured riding school based in The Haven, Billingshurst, West Sussex.

Regular Riding Lessons

We offer structured group riding lessons for all levels, from complete beginners through to more advanced riders.

Lessons are delivered on a carefully selected range of safe, well-schooled ponies and horses, allowing each rider to progress with confidence.

Riders follow a clear and supportive progression pathway, developing their balance, control and understanding of the horse as they move through the levels.

Members have the opportunity to work towards ABRS (Association of British Riding Schools) Ridden Awards, providing a recognised framework for progression. These awards allow riders to build skills step-by-step, set goals and celebrate their achievements along the way.

Nervous or less confident riders are supported with a calm and patient approach, helping them build confidence at their own pace.

Monday to Thursday (after school) Saturday mornings. We run various Pony day and events during the holiday times.

Fortnightly riders are welcome, although availability within groups may be limited.

Progression & Awards

As an ABRS+ approved centre, we offer progressive riding and stable management tests, providing a clear and structured learning pathway.

Riders can work towards rosettes and certificates while developing their knowledge, skills and confidence.

Stable Management Sessions

Every other Saturday lunchtime, we run Stable Management sessions where riders can work towards ABRS rosette awards.

Sessions include a mix of practical and theory-based learning, helping riders develop their knowledge of pony care, handling and stable management in a fun and structured way.

Pony Hire

We offer Sunday morning pony hire for regular riders wanting to spend more time around the ponies and gain valuable hands-on experience.

Available for riders aged 10+ who are confident in all three paces.

Please discuss directly with Vicki.

Tiny Tots and Young Rider Sessions

For younger children and those not yet ready for regular group lessons, we offer daytime sessions including time with a pony, a short lead rein ride and the opportunity to meet our other animals. Our regular group sessions are aimed for age 6+

We also offer personalised daytime sessions for children and young people who may benefit from a quieter, more individual approach.
