with animals
A fun, hands-on session for children who love animals and the outdoors. Children become involved in caring for our friendly animals while learning about feeding, handling, welfare, rare breeds and life on the farm.

Sessions are educational, but the emphasis is on learning by doing. Children can build confidence, responsibility and practical countryside skills in a relaxed farm setting.
Children's riding lessons
We offer structured after-school and Saturday group riding lessons for children and young people of all abilities, from complete beginners through to more experienced riders.
​
Our riders have the opportunity to work through the ABRS levels gaining progress awards, certificates and rosettes in riding and horse care.
Tiny tots pony time and lead rein sessions are offered during the weekdays.
Animal experiences
Come and meet our friendly animals, discover our rare breeds and enjoy time on our family farm. Our Animal Experience is a relaxed guided farm experience for all ages, giving visitors the chance to meet selected animals, ask questions, enjoy hands-on interaction where appropriate and spend time in the countryside at a gentle pace.

Every visit may vary slightly depending on the season and what is happening on the farm, which helps keep the experience genuine and personal.

Who we are...
Tucked into the West Sussex countryside near Billingshurst, Sweetlands is a small, family-run farm where children and young people build confidence through horses, animals and time outdoors. Buzzards circle overhead, swallows return to the stable rafters each year and the hedgerows are alive with birdsong, Victoria and Nigel have spent over a decade nurturing, from planting trees and hedging to installing solar power and water collection.

As a 5★ Higher Standards Licensed, ABRS+ Approved riding school, we take a personal approach, getting to know every child so their session fits them.

The Farmers Rest Cafe
The Farmer's Rest Café, the newest addition to Sweetlands Farm, is open during riding lessons, experiences and events, serving coffee, homemade cakes and light refreshments.
Pop in before or after your visit to relax and refuel, no booking onto an experience required, everyone's welcome to enjoy the café whenever it's open.
