Horse Riding Lessons at Sweetlands Farm

We are 5* Higher Standard licensed and fully insured riding school based in The Haven, Rudgwick we are close to Horsham, Billingshurst and Cranleigh, West Sussex.

We run regular children's riding lessons Monday to Thursday after school and Saturday mornings. 

We are currently not taking on any riders under the age of 6yrs old. 

All beginners must start with private or lead group lessons to establish the basics and will be then be put into a suitable group ASAP. Fortnightly riders very welcome but may have to patient finding a group. 

We are currently only offering children lessons. 

We have a selection of lovely horses for our clients to ride and we offer lessons from beginner to advanced riders. Nervous riders will flourish under Vicki and Nigel instruction. Rider weight limit 11 stone. 

We offer private/group lessons/hacks. During the holidays we run pony days, camps and competitions.

1/2 hour group/hack £29

40 min group lesson/hack £33

45 min group/hack £35

25 min child's beginner private lesson £33


If group lessons have less than 3 riders 15 minutes will come off lesson time and will be classed as a semi private lesson.

Terms and Conditions

ALL Clients:

*Must have completed a Rider Registration Form before riding a horse. This will be countersigned after the lesson by an instructor.

*Must resubmit their Rider Registration Form if their details change. (the responsibility falls to the Parent/Guardian if the child is under 18).

*We reserve the right to refuse you to ride a particular horse/pony if we feel that the safety of the rider or horse is in question.

*You reserve the right to ask change to another horse/ pony, providing one is available, and it is practical and safe to do so.

*We reserve the right to refuse to teach a client for any reason.

Payments:

*All Bookings Require Payment in Advance. (by BACS or cash only)

*It is a condition of booking that you accept our No Refund Policy.

*If you fail to turn up, you will be required to pay in full.

*Late payment charge of £2 to cover admin time chasing up payments! If payment is not there by the following morning and I have to ask then I will have to charge!

*If paying by cash correct money must be put in a sealed envelope with riders name on it and put into the post box on the trolley, which is just inside the yard entrance.

* All payments to be made at time of riding!! If we find we are chasing payments, those riders will not be guaranteed a slot going forward or may be asked to pay at time of booking for future lessons.


Punctuality and Arrival Times:

*Please arrive 10 minutes before the start of the lesson/ hack /pony ride to allow time for hat fitting.

*If you are late, we unfortunately cannot make that time up as other clients will be waiting for their lessons to start on time.

*if you are late and your lesson has gone a hack and already left for the ride without you then lesson must be paid for in full and you will miss your ride unless another lesson is running at the same time which suitable to join in on.

*If we are late for whatever reason we will make up your lesson/hack time.


New Clients:

*Are required to attend a mandatory Assessment/Introduction Lesson before being allowed to book anything else. This allows us to ascertain your riding level.

*All Clients Rules Apply.


Previous Clients:

*If you've not been riding with us for a year or more. We reserve the right to ask you to complete another Assessment Lesson.

Cancellations:

We have also made a change that we will no longer require 24hrs notice to cancel, BUT our new policy is…

Weekday riders -  “No charge if cancel before 9am on the day you ride but any cancellations after 9am will be charged full price” 

Saturday riders - “No charge if received before 5pm Friday evening, any cancellations after 5pm will be charged full price”

There will be NO exceptions for this new policy.  Non payment of the cancellation fee may put your place in a lesson at risk


Bad Weather:

*Activities might be cancelled in extreme weather.You should call us on 07921 543510 before you leave if the weather is in doubt.

*Riding Might be cancelled when the following weather is occurring:

Heavy Snow Heavy Rain and/or Flooding.Medium to Hurricane Force Winds.

*Stable management may be offered in replacement of riding.


Safety Equipment and Riding Wear:

*P.P.E (Personal Protective Equipment): Every time you handle a horse you are required to wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.


Riding Helmets:

*Hats (all types): Should be PAS015 or BSEN138 standard (or better).

*Must be worn and fastened at all times while riding a horse.

*We strongly advise all customers to purchase their own helmet as soon as possible.


Body Protectors:

*We do not provide body protectors.

*We strongly recommend you wear one whenever riding.This is especially important if you take part in jumping classes.

*We reserve the right to refuse you lessons until you've purchased one.

*We recommend you wear one whenever handling a horse.


Riding Footwear:

*Clients must wear appropriate footwear while riding.

*Allowed Footwear:Jodhpur Boots,Riding Boots

*Disallowed Footwear:Trainers,High Heels,Sandals,Hiking Boots

*We reserve the right to refuse footwear we deem unsafe

*We recommend toe protection whenever handling a horse.


Extra Visitors and/or Friends of the Family:

*Children must be supervised at all times by a legally responsible person.

*Parents are advised not to leave your children unattended at any time during their stay at Sweetlands farm.

*If spectating please remain as quiet as possible, and in full view of the horses/ponies & Instructor at all times.

*Whilst spectating, the Instructor reserves the right to ask you to leave if they feel the safety of the rider or horse/pony is in question.


Young Children: 

*Must be supervised at all times by a responsible person and remain seated and quiet whilst lessons are in progress and not to run around the yard.

*Movement of Horses & ponies and Farm Equipment around the yard and surrounding areas is unavoidable and we ask you to give way to them at all times.


Smoking Policy:

*We have a Strict No Smoking Policy, if you are caught you will be asked to leave.


Pets: 

*We don't allow any clients to bring their own pets onto the grounds/premises.

*Guide Dogs are Allowed.


Horses/Ponies: 

*All animals are unpredictable, Do Not Feed the Horses & Ponies at any time. 

*Don't enter any field, box or make contact with a Horse or Pony at any time, without prior authorisation from a member of staff.


*Cars, Bicycles:

*We can't be held responsible for any damage to your transportation while on the premises/grounds.


Safeguarding policy please no videos of group lessons without permission. 

Personal Property: 

*We can't be held responsible for Damage, Theft or Loss of your personal property while it's on the premises.


RIDING IS A RISK SPORT - Your choice to ride is voluntary. We take all reasonable care to provide suitable and safe horses and ponies for all our clients. All animals can be Unpredictable. We strongly advise you to take out full personal accident cover.


PLEASE NOTE:  Owners, Staff and Managing agents cannot be held responsible for any accident, injury or loss to any persons or their property whilst on these premises or whilst out hacking, eventing or showing.
